How should I package and label my freight shipments?
- Use pallets or crates in good condition.
- Distribute weight evenly and avoid overhang.
- Secure the load with tight shrink-wrap from the base up, plus strapping or corner boards as needed.
- Protect items with internal padding, edge protectors, and covers if exposed.
- Stacking: Keep height reasonable. Mark “Do Not Stack” if necessary and note potential non-stackable charges.
- Label clearly with shipper and consignee addresses, references, and BOL number on multiple sides. Use proper hazard labels if applicable. Provide the BOL at pickup. Carriers may refuse inadequately packaged freight.
Do I need to palletize?
Yes for most freight over 150 lb. Pallets enable forklift handling, reduce damage, and speed cross-docking. Crates are preferred for fragile or irregular items.
